THIS SHIELD IN VERY GOOD CONDITION WAS BROUGHT BACK TO GREAT BRITAIN AFTER THE ANGLO-ZULU WAR, 1879 AS A TROPHY AND HAS BEEN IN PRIVATE COLLECTIONS SINCE. THE UMBUMBULOZU. IT COMES WITH THE ORIGINAL SUPPORT STICK AND MEASURES 34.5 X 19 INCHES. THE SUPPORT STICK IS 40.5 INCHES LONG. ZULU SPEAR ASSEGAI 19TH CENTURY
A fine example of a 19th-century Zulu/South African spear/assegai with a one-piece cow tail leather binding in very good condition given the age of the spear. Overall length is 39 inches and the blade is 10.25 inches long. The thin blade, binding and the characteristics of this spear are typical features of a 19th-century Zulu weapon and likely connected to the Zulu wars period. read more
